Weekend fixtures

14th March 2009

There are opportunities this weekend for the teams in the playoff picture to consolidate their positions.

Second placed Cambridge United Host Struggling Northwich Victoria. Cambridge are unbeaten in nine, winning six so there should be no slip ups here.

Crawley Town will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday's defeat at Kidderminster when they entertain Rushden and Diamonds. Rushden's form is patchy at best, but they will be encouraged by an away point at Torquay recently and could get a share of the spoils again.

Kettering are at home to Eastbourne and will be hoping to boost their playoff hopes with all three points. The poppies will be disappointed with Tuesday's 0-0 at home to Grays and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches with a home win. Eastbourne beat playoff hopefuls Wrexham last week, for a first win in six. I expect Kettering to take all the points here.

Oxford United have played themselves into the playoff picture recently, with only one defeat in ten matches. They host Grays Athletic today who are battling for survival. Grays have not fared well against the top team this season and I don't expect them to get any joy today. Home win.

Fourth placed Torquay United Host Barrow who are currently in the relegation zone. Barrow's league form has been poor recently, winning only one of the last eight. Torquay's strong home form should see them prevail here.

Kidderminster Harriers travel to bottom club Lewes and would consider anything less than three points as a disaster. Lewes have lost eleven straight league games conceding 27 goals in the process. They also have the worst home record in the division losing 14 of their 18 games.

Finally Wrexham travel to Woking facing a tricky encounter. Woking have lost four of the last six matches, all by a 1-0 scoreline and will prove difficult oppents for the misfiring Dragons. Wrexham have lost their last three away in the league, and will be hoping that the inclusion of Ex Blackburn and Crystal Palace striker Matt Jansen will add a cutting edge to the attack. Wrexham are currently nine points adrift of Fifth placed Stevenage Borough, and any more slip ups will cost them dearly. I expect Wrexham to have too much quality and record a narrow win.
