Weekend review
14th March 2009
Two teams have strengthened their position in the playoff picture after this weekend's games mostly went to form.
Cambridge United continued their recent good form with a 4-1 demolition of Northwich Victoria. United have now closed to within five points of leaders Burton Albion, and with a good home run in could yet finish the season as Champions.
Elsewhere, Torquay United consolidated their position in the top five with a 4-1 defeat of strugglers Barrow. It was a fairly one sided affair and the result moves Torquay into third place, while Barrow slip into the relegation zone.
Kidderminster Harriers moved up into sixth after beating bottom club Lewes 1-0. They replaced Crawley Town in sixth place who could only manage a 0-0 draw at home to Rushden and Diamonds.
Oxford United improved to eighth position after beating Grays Athletic 4-1 at the Kassam Stadium. The result was never in doubt with Oxford racing into a 3-0 half time lead. The result leaves relegation threatened Grays third from bottom of the table.
Kettering Town slipped to tenth after a 1-0 home defeat to Eastbourne Borough. The win moves Eastbourne up to thirteenth in the table with forty nine points and they are now looking safe after some fine results in recent games.
Wrexham's recent dismal run of results continued with a 1-1 draw at Woking. Yet again Wrexham had the better of the game and should have added to an early Baynes goal. Woking equalised early in the second half , and despite all their effort Wrexham could not fashion a winning goal. The draw sees Wrexham drop to ninth place, while Woking move up one place to nineteenth.
