PRESS RELEASE ON BEHALF OF THE DIRECTORS OF THE WREXHAM ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED ("WREXHAM AFC")
16TH NOVEMBER 2004
---------------------------------------
The Directors of Wrexham AFC, being Dave Bennett and Dave Griffiths (“the Directors”), wish to make this statement to let the fans of the club know the current position in relation to attempts to save the Club and League football in the town of
During the period for which the Directors have held office they have done everything they can do to work for the best interests of Wrexham AFC without any renumberation.
Unfortunately, the situation has now been reached where, if nothing is done, a winding up order will be made in the High Court tomorrow and Wrexham AFC will be placed into liquidation. The consequence of that being expulsion from the Football League and the end of 132 years of League football in Wrexham.
The Directors have worked tirelessly during recent times to avoid this situation and to ensure the survival of Wrexham AFC without having to resort to a formal insolvency procedure. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts and in part due to the situation they have inherited, this has not proved possible. It is therefore necessary to announce that the Directors have taken the decision to petition the court for an Administration Order to ensure that every possible avenue can be explored to facilitate the survival of Wrexham AFC. If an Administration order is made by the Court then there are adverse consequences, the most obvious of which being the deduction of 10 points. However, faced with the alternative of the Club ceasing to exist the Directors believe that their decision is the best in the interests of the Club and the continuation of League football in Wrexham.
This is not a solution to the Club’s problems and is only a mechanism through which a solution can be sought. There is considerable hard work ahead and the Directors are totally committed to continue their efforts if the Club does enter Administration. They will need the continued help and support of everyone involved in this matter including Wrexham Council and the Welsh Assembly.
The Administration petition will be heard in the near future, at a date and time fixed by the High Court. The Directors would like to stress that every effort will be made by them, wherever possible, to complete a financial rescue package prior to the proposed hearing date and without the need to enter into Administration. Interested parties should therefore contact the Directors as the Club as a matter of urgency.
Discussions will continue with those parties who have already formally and informally expressed their interest to the Board and other Stakeholders.
The Directors would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who have pledged their support to the Club and the Directors themselves during these difficult times and they hope that support will continue to ensure the survival of football at the Racecourse.
