Away trip to Wednesday in Carling Cup

Last updated : 21 June 2006 By Dylan Gallacher
The match to be played w/c 21st August 2006.

The first round is split into North and South. There is no regionalisation in round 2 with 12 Premiership clubs also joining the competition. The final 8 Premiership clubs (who are competing in Europe) join in round 3.

Denis Smith told the official website

"The draw was seeded, so we always knew that in all likelihood it would be a tough tie. But to face Wednesday at their own ground is not one we would have picked for ourselves.

"That is the draw though and a visit to Hillsborough is always one the players look forward to.

"It's also not too far for our supporters to travel, even for a midweek fixture, so I would hope for a good following."
