Wrexham manager Brian Carey said poor refereeing decisions cost his side victory over MK Dons on Saturday.

"When this was a fair contest, we were the better team and we were the team that was going to win the game - then the wrong decision was made," he said.

"As the MK Dons manager said, the ball was travelling 200 miles per hour, hits Lee Roche's hand and the referee gives a penalty. It's hard to take.

"I'm gutted for the players and fans - they haven't had value for money."

Wrexham, who find themselves back in the League Two relegation zone, took an early lead when striker Lee McEvilly slotted in his fifth goal in as many games.

This type of spirit and performance will see us through in the end

But the match was turned on its head just before half-time when Roche was sent off for a second yellow card after referee Keith Hill harshly penalised the defender for handball.

Roche was standing a yard away from Keith Andrews, who then scored from the penalty, when the Dons' captain fierce shot struck him.

Controversy surrounded the Dons' winner too, as Wrexham argued that Clive Platt's 85th-minute header had not crossed the line.

Roche now joins Steve Evans, Chris Llewellyn and Ryan Valentine on the suspension list.

And to compound Wrexham's misery, defender Danny Williams and goalkeeper limped off injured.

Carey said: "We've got an opportunity this week to supplement the squad and we'll definitely have to do that now.

"It's my job to deal with that. You might say it never rains but it pours, but you've just got to take it on the chin and move on."

He added: "Teams have come here to MK Dons recently and had a very tough time. I was here on Tuesday and saw Macclesfield beaten 4-0.

"But with 10 men and then even with nine, we dug in - even though they had some chances in the second-half.

"But this type of spirit and performance will see us through in the end."
