"For me this is an on-going process and I can't put up with too much more of that," he said.
"That's the first game where I can say they weren't with me. In the last four games there was a spark and a response, but that was a poor showing.
"I can only apologise for the lack of effort, enthusiasm and passion for the club that was on show in the first half. It's not acceptable."
"Our form has not been good, so the danger of that (dropping into the relegation zone) was always there," he said. "We've got to have a good week and go again next Saturday.
"You would think that our position would act as a spur to the players. In the situation we're in it's a battle and it's a fight. Those qualities are a pre-requisite before you go on the pitch.
"I'm baffled as to why they weren't there today."
