Ferguson disapointed not to manage Wrexham

The midfielder has just been appointed as Peterborough United's new player/manager after spending seven-and-a-half years at Wrexham.

The Welsh club recently handed Brian Carey the manager's job until the end of the season after dismissing Denis Smith.

Ferguson concedes he was keen to take over at the Racecourse Ground and was upset not to be given the opportunity.

"I'd be lying if I said I was not disappointed that I didn't have the chance to talk about the Wrexham vacancy," said Ferguson.

"But no one has got a divine right to get anything.

"At the same time I was delighted for Brian because I'm sure he will do well for the club and that they have a realistic chance of getting away from where they are now.

"It's no secret I have been preparing to go into management for some time and it's the case in football that as one door closes another opens."

Ferguson marked his first game in charge since replacing Keith Alexander as Peterborough manager with a 1-0 defeat at Lincoln City.
