Hamilton Asks Chancellor to Write Debt Off

Controversial Wrexham owner Alex Hamilton has made an audacious attempt to get the Government to write off the club's multi-million pound debt which has believed to have come about through his lack of concern for the club.

The Dragons were relegated to League Two after a 10-point penalty enforced on them for entering administration in December effectvely ended their hopes of surviving the drop.

Wrexham are believed to be £4m in debt, however, failed solicitor
Hamilton has written to Chancellor Gordon Brown asking him to write off the £1.25m owed to the Inland Revenue.

As Live8 organiser Sir Bob Geldof demands that the UK take the lead in writing off $50bn of African debt ahead of next month's G8 summit meeting in Gleneagles, Scotland, Hamilton believes that they could also write off Wrexham's debt.

"If Gordon Brown is willing to do it for Bob Geldof then surely he can make the same gesture to Wrexham Football Club," insisted Hamilton.

"I have written to Mr Brown asking him to write-off the repayment of debt to the Inland Revenue on behalf of the football club."

Hamilton insists he has yet to hear a final improved offer from local businessman Neville Dickens to purchase the club and The Racecourse ground.
