Key Players Could Stay

Wrexham boss Denis Smith has warned clubs interested in signing his key players Craig Morgan and Juan Ugarte that they could be staying at the Racecourse.

Both Basque-hitman Ugarte and Wales U21 defender Morgan have been offered new deals by the north Wales club, yet look set to move elsewhere, however, Smith insisted they are still in the running for their signatures.

"I have spoken to Juan and I believe there is a good chance of him staying," said Smith.

"He says we're up there near the top of where he wants to go.

"Any interested club has to make a better offer than the one we've made. It has to be a club that is not going to go belly-up or it has to be an area where he wants to live."

Ugarte, 24, has been linked with Cardiff, Oldham, Leeds, Sheffield United, Doncaster and Crewe among others already, with Crewe seeming a possible move for the former Real Sociedad player, who is friends with Liverpool star Xabi Alonso.

Twenty-year old Morgan has already rejected a new Wrexham deal, however Smith says the player is not attracting interest from the kind of clubs that would persuade him to leave the Racecourse.

"He has decided he wants to look elsewhere," said Smith. "He's turned down the offer I've made - which is a very good one - so now he can look around."

Should Morgan leave Wrexham, his new club would have to pay compensation to Wrexham or be taken to Transfer Tribunal, who will decide what the new club should pay Wrexham as he is under 24.
