"Stevie Evans and Maheta (Molango) had good early chances, you put one of those in and it changes the shape of the game," Smith said.
"We created enough chances to win the game, so of course I'm disappointed, but it was always going to be tough.
"In the end we could even have lost as they hit the post, but that's two clean sheets on the trot now."
