Wrexham manager Denis Smith is fuming after a derogatory offer from MK Dons for defender Craig Morgan.
Smith, who lost
Morgan has been offered a new deal at the Racecourse, but could be tempted away from north Wales by the prospect of more money to join Danny Wilson's League One outfit.
Morgan, is rated an outstanding prospect and today flew out to Spain as part of Wales manager John Toshack's senior training squad.
Smith revealed the fee offered by MK Dons to Wrexham's administrators was less than five figures, adding: "If they had added another couple of noughts we might have been in business.
"The administrators talk to me because this is my business and this is what I do.
"MK Dons are taking the mickey so they have got no chance."
Smith also reiterated that he should Morgan leave the Racecourse he would happily take the club who takes him to tribunal, and is confident of securing a more realistic fee that way.
"The lad has been with us since the age of nine so there has been a lot of development work put in by this club," he added.
"At the moment I have not given any thought to the prospect of Craig moving anywhere because I have got more important things to sort out."
Swansea City are also rumoured to be interested in securing the services of Morgan, but Smith would also demand that they pay up or be forced to tribunal, and may not look favourably toward Swansea who poached goalscorer Lee Trundle after the striker helped Wrexham win promotion to League One just two seasons ago.
With Steve Roberts set to join Doncaster Rovers on July 1, Smith will be keen not to lose another centre half, especially one with the potential of Morgan, who is a key player at the heart of the defence.
Smith admitted that the uncertainty about Wrexham's future helped Roberts decide to accept the Donny Rovers deal.
"I'm pretty sure he did not really want to leave because he is a Wrexham lad but
"If we'd been able to do the same back in December I don't think we would have had a problem but it was only last week that I could make him an offer.
"Steve likes to have an organised life, so it's understandable and I wish him all the best.
"He's gone about things in the right way and he's not kept me hanging around but it's ironic that Neil wanted to come back here when
As yet Smith has not heard from other players offered new contarcts last week.
