Denis Smith today admitted that he was still keen to sign two new players before the big start of the new campaign next Saturday.

We understand that the players will a defender and a forward, however Smith received bad news concerning Wales U21 international Dylan Hughes.

"I have had a telephone call from Dylan telling me he has picked up an injury," said Smith.

"So he will not be coming to train with us next week, which is disappointing."

However, the gaffer is continuing to look around for possible new signings.

"We need players who can come in to help us right away and that has caused a problem with one player I was looking at, as he was sent off in a friendly and could be facing a three-match ban!" he continued.

"There is though a Spanish centre half joining us on Monday for training, a friend of Everton's Mikel Arteta."
