"It's back to the drawing board a little bit, but there isn't a great deal more I can do. I've got nowhere else to go," said Smith. "Jon Newby has now done his hamstring so he's out for Saturday, along with four of our other strikers. "So if anyone fancies playing up front for us then we'll see what we can do." Wrexham have ensured horrendous back luck with injuries to strikers this season. Lee McEvilly and Juan Ugarte have not played a game this season, while Neil Roberts' ankle problem will keep him out for another month.
Chris Llewellyn is suspended after his sending off against Bristol Rovers at the end of last month, while Tom Craddock was injured his first game since joining on loan from Middlesbrough. Smith brought in Kevin Smith and Maheta Molango last week on loan to boost his striking options, but both have struggled in their first two games. "We've got a problem with the strikeforce," said Smith. "We haven't scored in the last two games. "We've scored two in the last three, but both of those goalscorers are out. We've only conceded one goal, but we're struggling in front of goal. "We've got to look at it and see what we can do. We'll work on it between now and Saturday and keep at it. "It's frustrating because I can't turn around and say the players haven't worked or tried (against Bury). They've given it everything but we are lacking that little bit of cutting edge. "It was never going to be easy against Bury - who had won five on the trot, now six - but I thought we did enough to get something out of it." |
