Sports Council for Wales investigate Hamilton

Alex Hamilton could be faced with legal action over the land transfer of the Racecourse Ground after a high level meeting of politicians in Cardiff yesterday including Wales Assembly Sports Minister, Alan Pugh.

The Sports Council for Wales has previously invested £1m of lottery funds into Wrexham's Racecourse ground, subsequently they have an “extensive existing public investment in the ground".

Mr Pugh states: "It appears that in 2002, a land transfer took place without the consent of the Sports Council, and we are now closely examining our legal position on this.

"The Sports Council has written to Mr Hamilton informing him of this."

The North Wales politicians there were fronted by Wrexham Council leader Neil Rogers as well as fellow council officers, Wrexham MP Ian Lucas and Clwyd South AM Karen Sinclair.

The Sports Council are now investigating their concerns and legal rights as regards the transfer of the land they invested in as it is now in clear danger.

"We are exploring all legal avenues open to us and we are working closely with the Welsh assembly and Wrexham Council to safeguard the venue for the people of Wrexham and north Wales."

Last month the local authority announced its intention to bid for the stadium, valued at around £1.5m.
