Swansea v Wrexham Preview

Wrexham are aiming for a third successive FAW Premier Cup triumph when they visit Swansea to play the last-ever game at the Vetch Field tonight.

Both Swansea City and Wrexham defeated Welsh Premier League sides - Bangor and TNS - in the semi-finals, so there is no real interest from a Welsh Premier side perspective.

Trundle joined Wrexham from Rhyl before a free move to the Swans at the end of last season and could upset Wrexham’s trophy hunt, as they aim to win the trophy for the sixth time in the eight years of the competition.

Swansea on the other hand have never won the Premier Cup despite two final appearances - both ending in defeat - but manager Kenny Jackett is confident his side can give the Vetch Field faithful one final celebration before they leave for their new stadium in Morfa.

Speaking to BBC Sport Wales, Jackett said: "We couldn't share our promotion celebrations with the fans after Saturday's 1-0 win at Bury.

"If we win Wednesday it will be a terrific opportunity to make up for that."

The victors will pick up £100,000 in prize money - a potentially invaluable financial boost for Denis Smith’s Dragons, with Smith admitting the money is a massive incentive, however, following two defeats to end their League One career, Smith also wants his side to show their true quality to end the season on a high.

"The game gives us a chance to prove that we should still be in League One as well." he said, referring again to the 10-point deduction that effectively relegated the north Wales side.
