Wrexham will go up insists Westwood

ASHLEY WESTWOOD says Wrexham still believe they will get promoted - and tonight's game at Northwich can launch a charge back into the play-offs.

The Dragons go into the game at the Victoria Stadium eight points off the play-off places with two games in hand, and are desperate to pick up what would be their first victory in nine outings.

Westwood wants Wrexham to show they belong in the play-offs against second-bottom Northwich, who will be seeking only their third home win of the season as they look to avoid a third straight defeat.

"We feel we should be up in the play-offs and hopefully now we can get back there," said the Dragons skipper. "There are no long faces at the training ground, nobody is down and if there was anybody the manager wouldn't have them at the club. Hopefully now we can start winning - we want to get back in the play-offs and I'm sure we will.

"Any win will hopefully launch us into a run and it's just a case of trying to find that first win. We haven't lost the last two games and we can take a lot of confidence from that."

Westwood said he hoped Wrexham's recent run was just a blip in form and they could now get back to the form which took them into the play-off places.

"Every team through the season will go through a sticky patch," the 32-year-old centre-back added. "Hopefully now we've been through our sticky patch - it's been a test of character but we'll come out the other side."

Asked whether the Victoria Stadium clash was a must-win game for Dean Saunders' side, Westwood said: "To be honest every game we play we believe is a must-win game.

"With 12 games to go we definitely need three points and we've got to try and achieve that."

Tonight's opponents are 16 points adrift of safety and haven't won in six games, but Westwood said. "It's not going to be an easy three points - they'll be fighting for their lives and sometimes those games work out harder than when you're playing the top teams."
