Joey Jones

D.O.B 4th March 1955. Position Defender.

Joey Jones is a name synonymous with Wrexham Football club. Joey joined the club from school in 1971, and made his League debut aged 17 against Rotherham United in January 1973.

Joey quickly established himself in John Neal's exciting team, and appeared more than 100 times during the next three seasons before moving to Liverpool in 1975 for £110,000.

During his time at Liverpool, Joey won a Championship medal in 1977, and was a member of Liverpool's European cup winning team the same season. Joey also appeared in an FA Cup final against Manchester United who denied Liverpool a unique treble by defeating them 2-1.

In October 1978, Joey rejoined Wrexham for £210,000. During his second spell at the Racecourse, Joey won a Welsh cup winners medal and made more than 150 appearances in all competitions.

Once again in 1982, Joey left the Racecourse, this time to team up with Ex Wrexham manager John Neal at Chelsea. Joey won a Second Division Championship medal at Chelsea before moving to Huddersfield Town for £30,000 in August 1985.

He stayed in Yorkshire for two seasons before signing for The Robins for a third time. Joey became player/coach under Brian Flynn before announcing his retirement in 1992.

Joey also represented his country with distinction, winning a total of 72 caps. Joey has been one of the most popular and loved players ever to pull on a Wrexham shirt, and proudly takes his place in the Wrexham and Wales hall of fame.
