Blackpool finally ended their Bloomfield Road hoodoo with their first home league victory of the season.
It delighted manager Colin Hendry who was visibly relieved at the final whistle.
Blackpool had gone seven games at home without the glint of victory, but they were made to fight every inch of the way by the division's cash crisis side Wrexham.
Wrexham made light of their financial predicament off the field with their tall forward line - led by the experienced Chris Armstrong - causing all sorts of first-half problems for the Seasiders.
Dennis Lawrence had a header cleared off the line from a Darren Ferguson corner in the 11th minute. In the 22nd minute the same ploy brought Wrexham's first goal.
Ferguson delivered a corner kick and the lanky Lawrence flicked on a header to Armstrong who powered in his headed goal at the far post.
Blackpool's lethargic attack didn't force Wrexham keeper Matt Baker into any first-half saves, but Baker was beaten within seconds of the second half restart.
Danny Coid slanted in a 30-yard free-kick which defender Peter Clarke met with a superb diving header which gave Baker no chance.
The game settled in to an entertaining end to end clash and it was a penalty which gave Blackpool their illusive win.
Substitute Jamie Burns crossed and Lawrence handballed when he seemed under very little pressure. The 65th minute spot-kick was put away by Scott Taylor for his seventh goal of the season.
From then on Blackpool began to dictate the pace of the game with midfielder Richie Wellens producing a lovely 20-yard volley which Baker did brilliantly to save at full stretch.
