Returning striker Warren Feeney marked his first League start since August with his fourth goal of the season as promotion chasing Bournemouth notched up their second successive home win.
Feeney was Bournemouth's leading marksman last term but has made just eight starts this season after picking up an ankle injury in the opening weeks.
But the former Leeds striker signalled the start of better things to come with a well-taken header to condemn promotion rivals Wrexham to their first defeat in five games in all competitions.
Feeney nodded home from four yards out after Bournemouth substitute Wade Elliott had crossed from the right.
Feeney had earlier opened the scoring, getting the faintest of touches to Welsh under-21 international Brian Stock's free-kick.
Wrexham's woes were compounded with the news that top scorer Andy Morrell may face an injury lay-off after limping off at half time with a leg injury.
Delighted Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "That was a great win for us against one of our main promotion rivals.
"Wrexham are a good side and we knew they would be difficult to break down so I was delighted with the win.
"I was pleased for Warren because he has had rotten luck with injury this year but hopefully he has turned the corner now." Wrexham boss Denis Smith added: "We are obviously disappointed at the defeat, but I can't be too downbeat because Bournemouth are a superb side.
"I've watched them a couple of times this season and been impressed so I won't say too much.
"That was our third game in a week and that took its toll on my players.
"There are a lot of tired, tired legs out there and we were physically held back so we won't dwell on the defeat for too long."
