It's a good job Bury didn't need a positive result from this game to make the play-offs-otherwise they wouldn't have got there.
A much changed Shakers line-up to the one that clinched a semi-final place at Southend was no match for their Welsh visitors.
Wrexham's victory was their eighth in a row and it was easy to see why they have secured a quick return to Division Two.
Apart from a couple of moments, including one shot from Jon Newby that was well saved by ex-Manchester City goalie Andy Dibble, Bury played second fiddle for much of the afternoon.
They fell a goal behind after just seven minutes when a long-range attempt from Carlos Edwards skimmed past Glyn Garner.
That's the way it stayed until early in the second half when Danny Swailes put through his own net for the second time this season.
Attempting to clear a cross from Andy Morrell for a corner, Swailes headed past Garner from close range.
Wrexham completed the scoring when ex-Stalybridge Celtic marksman Lee Trundle played Darren Ferguson and the veteran midfielder picked his spot from 12 yards.
At least the gate of 5,186 was of some consolation, Bury's second biggest attendance of the campaign.
"I'm disappointed we didn't win the championship," said Wrexham boss Denis Smith. "I thought at times we were the best side in this league.
"But we have finished off the season superbly, not just with the goals but with a couple of away wins and three clean sheets.
"We will have a party tonight and then prepare for our final with Newport County in the Welsh Premier Cup." Bury now play Bournemouth, starting with the home leg next Saturday, in an attempt to reach the Millennium Stadium at Cardiff.
"We've beaten them home and away, but I think they are one of the better sides in this division," said Andy Preece.
"It's going to be tough but hopefully we can finish the job." Preece's main regret was that the players he brought in hadn't impressed.
"I gave them an opportunity to make a claim for the play-offs, but unfortunately they didn't take it.
"I don't think we could have done too much with the first goal but I thought we could have done better with the other two goals."
