Carlisle booked a place in the LDV Vans Trophy Northern Area semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Wrexham.

Goals from Jon McCarthy and Paul Robinson delivered the victory and left the Red Dragons regretting a hatful of wasted chances.

Manager Denis Smith said: "To win games you have got to score goals. Both sides played some great football but if we had taken some chances we would have won." McCarthy got the first with a close-range header after Leon Osman's shot rebounded off the crossbar.

Before and after, Carlisle keeper Matt Glennon kept out everything the visitors could throw at him and with two minutes to go Ritchie Foran beat the offside trap, drew the keeper and found Paul Robinson who finished from four yards.
