Wrexham 1 Barrow 1

Wrexham's fading promotion hopes finally disappeared tonight when Barrow secured a 1-1 draw that might keep them in the BSP next season.

Terry Darracott made six changes to the line up that lost at Histon on Saturday, Curtis and Williamson were restored to defence, while Spann and Baynes replaced Flynn and Aiston in midfield and Fairhurst and Abbott made way for a new strike force of Suffo and Proctor.

Wrexham's nervous play was evident again, and new keeper Nielsen had to make a save from Walker on ten minutes when he burst through unchallenged. Most of the first half was very scrappy, Wrexham's best effort coming from Wes Baynes, whose great run produced a corner.

After fifty minutes Wrexham replaced Suffo with teenage striker Anoruo, however the game continued to be scrappy with neither team looking likely to break the deadlock.

Then thirteen minutes from time Wrexham got the slice of luck they needed, after a frantic goalmouth melee, the ball fell to Anoruo he smashed the ball home from ten yards to give the Dragons the lead.

Barrow were producing nothing in front of goal and a 1-0 scoreline looked a likely outcome until two minutes into injury time. Wrexham conceded a free kick, and a mistake by Ashley Westwood gave Nick Rogan an opportunity from fifteen yards, his low shot beat Nielsen to give Barrow an unlikely draw.

The result leaves Wrexham ten points adrift of the playoff places, and they now surely have no chance of a return to the football league at the first attempt.
