Wrexham boss Denis Smith was unhappy with a point from this dull encounter in which most of the excitement was provided by referee Carl Boyson as he produced a string of bookings and a red card.
"It was like watching paint dry," Smith admitted after the game. "They came to frustrate us and achieved it so it is a disappointing result.
"On the brighter side we got a point and we kept another clean sheet, proving we are an extremely difficult side to break down." Darlington's caretaker boss Mick Tait was in a happier mood after the game saying: "I don't think we deserved to win but we worked hard for a point.
"Wrexham are a good side and I can see why they are doing so well." Wrexham's leading scorer Andy Morrell could not add to his 21-goal tally but he went close. He saw an early shot blocked on the line, missed a sitter from the edge of the six-yard box and had a penalty appeal turned down.
He thought he was harshly treated when he went down under a challenge by Stuart Whitehead, but the referee waved play on.
Brian Carey headed wide, then missed again from the edge of the area as Wrexham pushed up in search of the vital breakthrough.
Ryan Valentine overlapped and sent Wrexham keeper Andy Dibble diving at full stretch to turn an angled shot away for a corner, before Gary Pearson missed Darlington's next opening with a 30-yard shot that flew just wide.
Dibble was in action again turning a Richard Hodgson shot past the post and in the dying minutes Morrell was frustrated again as Andy Collett pulled off a good save.
Pearson was sent off in the closing stages to leave Darlington reduced to ten men and they were under constant pressure in the four minutes of stoppage time.
Wrexham's Darren Ferguson narrowly escaped being sent off when he was lectured by the referee for dissent after already going into the book for a foul.
