Wrexham 1 Forest Green Rovers 1
Wrexham's season is likely to come to a premature end, unless they find an answer to their alarming slump in form.
Dean Saunders made three changes to the side that played in Saturday's defeat against Eastbourne, Gavin Ward making way for Anthony Williams making first league start this season in goal, While Jon Brown and Andy Fleming replaced Sam Aiston and Nathan Fairhurst in midfield.
Forest Green have been on a good run lately, drawing seven and winning one in an eight match unbeaten spell which has seen them move away from the bottom four.
The opening exchanges were very scrappy, with neither team dominating. Just like Saturday Wrexham were lacking a cutting edge, with Proctor Wrexham's liveliest attacker. The visitors were the livelier of the two teams though, testing Wrexham's defence with a couple of corners.
Wrexham's first real chance fell to Andy Fleming after half an hour, his low shot being saved by Burton after good work by Proctor.
Forest Green continued to win the midfield tussle and Wrexham had Crofts and Curtis booked for late challenges.
On forty minutes Wrexham should have gone ahead. Ashley Westwood's header was saved by Burton, but Proctor hit the post from two yards with the rebound when it looked like he must score.
There was no more action of any note and the half ended scoreless.
Silvio Spann replaced Brown at the start of the second half, the game continued to be a scrappy affair with the best chance falling to Proctor whose shot was easily saved by Burton.
Louis then had a half chance on 55 minutes, but his effort was well over. Wrexham again had a golden opportunity when Proctor was put clear, but again he hit the post with the keeper beaten.
On 75 minutes Wrexham paid the price when Forest Green took the lead. A hopeful ball over the top beat the Wrexham defence, and Alex Mangan controlled the ball and beat Williams from 10 yards to put the visitors ahead. Saunders sent on Obi Anuoro in place of Fleming as Wrexham reverted to 4-3-3 in an attempt to try and save the game.
Wrexham pushed forward putting the Forest Green defence under pressure and got their reward on 86 minutes. Jeff Louis was sent clear by Proctor and he slid his shot low past Burton into the net.
The fourth official indicated four minutes of added time, and in that time the referee incensed the Wrexham fans by booking Ryan Flynn for diving when he was clearly tripped in the area.
That was the last incident of a scrappy game, and with the teams above them winning Wrexham will look upon this as two points lost rather than one gained.
