Wrexham 2-4 Alfreton Town- Match Report

Alfreton advance from tempestuous encounter

Ben Tomlinson's double helped book Alfreton's place in the second round of the FA Cup with a 4-2 win over Wrexham.

Town moved into the second round for only the second time in the club's history but Tomlinson was forced to watch the celebrations from the stand after seeing red in a game which saw two penalties and three sendings off.

Neil Ashton had given the Dragons a dream start by putting them in front with a second-minute spot-kick.

But Paul Clayton levelled matters midway through the first half before Red Dragons keeper Joslain Mayebi was dismissed.

Daniel Bradley scored from the spot before also receiving his marching orders along with Tomlinson, who scored two late goals for the visitors either side of Danny Wright's reply.

Alfreton made a disastrous start when Danny Meadows brought down Wrexham's Stephen Wright after just 16 seconds.

Ashton dispatched the resulting penalty but Alfreton equalised when Mayebi spilled Josh Law's free-kick with Clayton smashing in the 27th minute rebound.

Mayebi was under the spotlight again when he received a straight red card for violent conduct in the 58th minute, Bradley slotting the penalty before seeing red for a second bookable offence.

Tomlinson scored a stunning 79th minute strike before Danny Wright scored to keep the tie alive on 85 minutes only for Tomlinson to strike again and get sent off for excessive celebration.
