In an end to end exciting feast of attacking football, it was visitors Wrexham who would have been most aggrieved at having to settle for a share of the points in this 1-1 draw.

The visitors opened the scoring when Darren Ferguson's back heeled free kick was smacked home with real venom by defender Stephen Roberts from 20 yards.

The visitors had chances to increase their early lead, with Lee Trundle's header from Carlos Edward's accurate cross bringing a fine save from Alan Fettis.

York took some time to recover from their early setback but then created a number of chances themselves.

Young Wrexham keeper Paul Whitfield performed well and saved Peter Duffield's header from ten yards, and then gathered Jonathan Parkin's 20-yard drive at the second attempt.

The keeper tipped Lee Cook's dipping shot from 25 yards over the bar and then saved well again from Cook after the lively winger broke from half way.

Just before the break top scorer Duffield was guilty of missing a golden chance, seizing on Brian Carey's careless back header, the striker shot over the bar when he seemed certain to score.

Wrexham dominated early proceedings after the break and Trundle oozed class as he fired in a number of efforts.

First he controlled Morrell's pass and hit a stunning volley on the turn to bring a brilliant save from Fettis and the striker was soon denied again by the keeper before shooting inches wide from the right edge of the area.

York City created little before equalising on 75 minutes. Cook's in-swinging corner from the right was slid home by Duffield at the far post from close in for his eighth goal of the season.

Both sides went in search of a late winner with Cook's curling effort from 25 yards being the closest effort
