Wrexham defeated League One basement boys Stockport County with a 2-0 win at the Racecourse ground to extend their unbeaten run which from October and manager Denis Smith had this to say:
"I'm delighted to have got through because this competition could be very important for us. I want to do well in any cup but this one we really can win. We've got twelve fit pros and the lads have gone out and done that. It was a very professional performance. In the first half we did well but there was a blip in the second where if they had got one back it would have been interesting but the chances gave us a lift and we went on to grab a second, and I'm delighted. We scored again off two set-plays because we are a threat due to the size we've got. I expect goals off my centre-backs because there is no point going up for set-plays if you're not looking to score goals. I was delighted for Juan to come on and play as he did. He's looked very good in training but it's always different in a proper match situation. I don't want to get too carried away with his performance as we will have to see if he can do it over 90 minutes and when the team is not attacking so much. Tonight his runs and movements were very good. What he has proved today is that he can hit the target and he's not done himself any harm at all."
